Over the last 3 years, as a church we have chosen a central focus for the year. In 2019, the focus was on Prayer. In 2020, our focus was on Scripture (reading through the Bible as a church in a year), and last year our focus was on Serve (Matthew 20:28). These 3 elements have created a balance in our Christian rhythms. We are on steady footing when we are immersed in prayer, reading the Word, and serving with love and kindness.
As I was praying about the focus for 2022, I heard "Connect." Because we're all creatures of habit, I immediately began planning how to bring connection into our church life this year. However, in my exuberant planning, God stopped me and said, "That word is for you." That surprised me; God was changing things up for 2022! So, at our first meeting in the New Year, we were led as a congregation to seek the Lord in order to select our own focus. What follows is my testimony about my focus of Connect this year.
It all started in late December/early January when along came an opportunity for me to connect! I found out about a company called Marketplace Chaplains. This company provides chaplains to secular businesses as a benefit to their employees. The chaplains visit the worksites weekly and are also available outside of the worksite visits to minister in a deeper way to those employees who request the support. I ended up applying for the job and was hired within a week's time. Since then, I've been busily going through training and am now a very part-time chaplain (only 15 hours a month) on a team with 3 others at 5 car dealerships and 1 body shop in Hillsboro. It was almost as if God had the ball rolling even before he gave me the word "Connect," as he unfolded the opportunity for more community connection right before my eyes. God is amazing and always has a plan. One of my favorite things is when I get to see his plans come together!
Do you have a focus for 2022? God is at work in the world around us, even in this time of great discouragement as we navigate Covid (and all its variants), a recession, and being apart for too long from those we love. If you don't have a focus for 2022 yet, remember that God always has a plan and purpose for our lives. Ask him where he is guiding you this year. I can fully assure you that he will provide an answer.
We are in ministry together and as we each walk in the current plans God has for our lives, we see the true definition of synergy: producing a combined effect greater than the sum of their separate effects. 😇
So let’s not get tired of doing what is good. At just the right time we will reap a harvest of blessing if we don’t give up. Galatians 6:9
