|A Place of Hope|
We believe in one living and true God, the maker and preserver of all things. We believe in the Trinity, which is the three-person Godhead of the Father, The Son, and the Holy Spirit; one God who created the world and everything in it. The Father, Son, and Holy Spirit are all holy, eternal, unchanging, just, merciful, have unlimited power, are all knowing, are everywhere at the same time, and are gracious.
We believe that God created humankind in order to have relationship. In the beginning this relationship was perfect and uninterrupted, with God and his creation walking together in the Garden. Due to sin being chosen by the first humans, Adam and Eve, the relationship between God and humanity was broken. God is holy, meaning that he is divine, separate from all that is sinful, and absolutely perfect. When humans began to sin, God’s holiness could not tolerate the sin. This caused a deep separation, one that hurt God because He was saddened to lose the relationship with us, but one that hurt humans even more because we were never meant to live apart from God.
Throughout history, as we can read in the Old Testament, God worked to restore the relationship with his creation. There were times that the relationship was improved, but it was never fully restored. It was as a result of God’s unending pursuit of us that Jesus came to live as a man on the earth. Basically, God put on skin and came to earth as a baby, grew as a young boy, a young man, and eventually became a man and ministered God’s love to the world.
We believe that Jesus brought reconciliation between God and humanity by offering salvation, deliverance from the power and effects of sin. God, in the form of Jesus, became like us, but died without sin, rose from the dead, and ascended to heaven, bridging the gap that sin had caused between God and people. We are now able to experience relationship and love like we were never able to before because of the reconciliation that took place between God and humankind through Jesus Christ. Admitting our sin and inability to live a sin-free life, asking forgiveness for our sins, acknowledging Jesus’ sacrifice in paying the price for sin, and asking Jesus to become the Lord and Savior of our life, delivers us from a life of sin to the promise of eternal life with Jesus Christ.
We believe that after Jesus rose from the dead and returned to the Father in heaven, the Holy Spirit was sent to live within each person who believes and accepts Jesus as Lord and Savior. We believe that the Holy Spirit equips us to live the life God has planned for us, including being involved in service for God. The Holy Spirit helps us to live a God-centered life instead of a self-centered life.
We believe the Bible is the inspired Word of God. It contains the history of humanity, and contains the clear message of Jesus’ purpose in coming to save the world and reunite God and humankind, as was God’s plan and purpose from the beginning. The Bible contains God’s revelation and is completely truthful in all it reveals. We believe that the scriptures have come to us through human authors who wrote, as God moved them, in the languages and literary forms of their times. God continues, by the illumination of the Holy Spirit, to speak through this Word to each generation and culture. We believe that the Bible has authority over all human life. It teaches the truth about God, His creation, His people, His one and only Son, and the destiny of humankind. It also teaches the way of salvation and the life of faith.
